SMRC (Saiful Mujani Research & Consulting) is a leading survey institution in Indonesia, known for its high-quality and reliable surveys on various topics, including politics. Recently, SMRC conducted a survey on the upcoming presidential election in 2024, which has garnered significant attention from the public and the media.
The SMRC survey aimed to gauge the public’s opinion on the potential presidential candidates and their electability. The survey was conducted from March 5 to March 13, 2022, and involved 1,200 respondents from various regions across Indonesia. The survey had a margin of error of 2.9% and a confidence level of 95%.
According to the survey, the current President, Joko Widodo (popularly known as Jokowi), is still the most favored candidate for the upcoming presidential election in 2024. Jokowi received 33.4% of the respondents’ votes, followed by Prabowo Subianto with 16.8%, and Anies Baswedan with 15.5%. Other potential candidates, such as Sandiaga Uno, Ganjar Pranowo, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, received less than 10% of the respondents’ votes.
The survey also showed that Jokowi’s electability had increased compared to the previous survey conducted in October 2021. In the previous survey, Jokowi received 29.9% of the respondents’ votes, while in the latest survey, he received 33.4%. The increase in Jokowi’s electability is attributed to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recovery efforts.
On the other hand, the survey also showed that the public’s trust in political parties and politicians had decreased. Only 13.6% of the respondents had trust in political parties, while 15.1% had trust in politicians. This indicates a growing disillusionment with the political establishment and highlights the need for meaningful reforms in the political system.
In conclusion, the SMRC survey on the 2024 presidential election provides valuable insights into the public’s opinion and perception of the potential candidates. The survey shows that Jokowi is still the most favored candidate, and his electability has increased due to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recovery efforts. However, the survey also highlights the need for political reforms and the growing disillusionment with the political establishment. As the election approaches, it will be interesting to see how the political landscape in Indonesia evolves, and whether the public’s opinion and perception of the candidates will change.
